David McGuinty is a fluently bilingual lawyer by trade; he has worked with governments, businesses, and not-for-profit organizations around the world. David is a graduate of the University of Guelph Kemptville College of Agriculture, completed his Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, Bachelor of Laws at the University of Ottawa, specialized diplomas in Civil and Comparative Law at Sherbrooke University, and a Master of Laws at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is a Harvard certified mediator and negotiator.
David has served with the United Nations in West Africa, practiced international law in London, worked with the International Development Law Organization in Rome, and was President and CEO of Canada’s National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy.
Since his election in 2004, David has served as Liberal Critic for Science and Technology, Official Opposition Critic for Energy and the Environment, Vice Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development, Chair of the National Capital Region Liberal Caucus, Opposition House Leader, and Acting Liberal Whip.
Re-elected in 2006, 2008, and 2011, David currently serves as Liberal Critic for Transport, Infrastructure, and Communities.
